Linux 5.15 System Calls Across Architectures
The number of every Linux 5.15 system call on 8 architectures, side by side (444 system calls).
The numbers are not portable: execve is 59 on x86-64, 11 on x86 and ARM, 221 on AArch64 and RISC-V.
Click a number to open the architecture table, or a name to see the prototype.
Calling conventions
| Arch | Instruction | Number | Arg 1 | Arg 2 | Arg 3 | Arg 4 | Arg 5 | Arg 6 | Return | Clobbered / error |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| x86-64 | syscall | rax | rdi | rsi | rdx | r10 | r8 | r9 | rax | rcx, r11 |

| ARM (EABI) | svc #0 | r7 | r0 | r1 | r2 | r3 | r4 | r5 | r0 | — |
| AArch64 | svc #0 | x8 | x0 | x1 | x2 | x3 | x4 | x5 | x0 | — |
| RISC-V 64 | ecall | a7 | a0 | a1 | a2 | a3 | a4 | a5 | a0 | — |
| MIPS o32 | syscall | v0 | a0 | a1 | a2 | a3 | sp+16 | sp+20 | v0 | a3 = error flag |

| PowerPC64 | sc | r0 | r3 | r4 | r5 | r6 | r7 | r8 | r3 | CR0.SO = error flag |
-4095 and -1 is an error (-errno); libc turns it into -1 and sets errno (MIPS and PowerPC flag errors separately, see below). Function call ABIs are on the calling conventions cheat sheet.System calls (444 names)
